Masquerade Ball Highlights

The 8th Annual Masquerade Ball was a spectacular gala, enjoyed by all.  Almost 200 guests arrived in a variety of imaginative and spectacular costumes and masks. The evening included stunning performances by Roberta Taylor Dance and the Canadian College of Performing Arts.  Guests danced the night away to the amazing sounds of one of Victoria’s favourite live bands, the Midnights.   The silent and live auction raised $20,000.00 for the Immunotherapy Research Program at the BC Cancer Agency.  With the very generous support of Derek and Julie Sanderson of Island IT, we were also able to donate over $29,000.00 worth of additional computer equipment to the research lab at the BC Cancer Agency. Sofa Buying Guide

Buying a sofa sounds like it should be an easy task. You simply walk into a store and select the one that looks nice and you buy it.   However, when choosing anything, or anyone, you intend to have around for a long time the same sage advise always rings true – It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Sofas should be evaluated from the inside out. It’s the details that you can’t see that determine how well your sofa will stand up to everything you and your family will put it through.  SuspensionYou may already know that colour predictions in home décor follow the colour trends of the fashion and beauty industries. Similarly, the suspension systems found in upholstery follows the suspension systems used automobile industry. As the auto industry develops new and better technology, the furniture industry adapts that same technology for use in upholstered furniture.

Interior Design: Science or Art?

How do great interior designers create incredibly beautiful spaces time and time again?  They know that there is much more to it than picking pretty fabrics and furnishings. Nate Berkus, Barbara Barry and our amazing Luxe designers understand these important 5 design principals: Balance, Proportion, Rhythm, Emphasis and Harmony.  BalanceBalance is broken into two kinds: formal and informal. 1. Formal BalanceFormal balance or symmetrical balance results, when objects of equal and weight are placed at equal distance from the central point of interest, creating a mirror image. The Art of Hanging Wall Art

You have just acquired a beautiful piece of wall art.  After deciding where it will hang, the next important step to fully appreciate your new acquisition is knowing HOW to hang your art. By following the simple guidelines below you will be able to hang your art without putting numerous holes in your walls and situate it perfectly in your room for your complete enjoyment. 1. As a general rule, hang art at eye level, which is 60″ off the ground to centre of image. Using this standard will allow you to create a harmony among the pictures in your home, as they will always hang in relationship to one another from their centers, not their sides. 2. Measure from the top of your picture to the middle (or take the total height and divide by 2) 3. Measure from the top of your picture to the tightened wire (Place your measuring tape under the picture wire and pull it taught, measure to the top of your picture)
