Toban Ralston

Designer

Toban was born right here in Victoria, BC, but has had the opportunity to live in various cities across Canada, including Vancouver, Toronto, and Halifax. In his travels across the country, Toban has received a Fashion Merchandising Diploma from Blanche MacDonald in Vancouver, a Textile Arts Diploma from Capilano University in North Vancouver, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Fashion/Textiles from NSCAD University in Halifax

Described as curious, comedic, and creative, Toban is also a major mythology enthusiast. Ancient stories from Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Salish cultures, with their dramatic and captivating narratives about the natural world, hold a particular fascination. He's also a major plant enthusiast and has cultivated a small but mighty indoor jungle at home, along with a flourishing flower and veggie garden. He loves to hang out with his friends and plants while watching Studio Ghibli films, enjoying the immersive and detailed worlds that feel both familiar and fantastical.

Toban's sense of design and style is significantly influenced by his grandma. While their actual aesthetics may differ greatly, Toban inherited her belief that life is enriched and beautified through intention and effort applied to oneself and one's surroundings, and that personal style is a gift both to yourself and to the world around you. This early design inspiration created a desire to make life more beautiful in every aspect – from the clothes we wear to the food we enjoy and the spaces we inhabit. This innate human desire to enhance the world around us, for both ourselves and others, truly resonates with Toban.

Working within one of downtown Victoria’s oldest buildings connects with Toban's view that design is about creating new chapters in an ongoing story of where we have been and where we are headed.

At Luxe, Toban is excited to build new client relationships and help design unique pieces that will enhance and elevate their homes and lives. This interest in making unique, personal choices reflects well in a favorite Dr. Suess quote of Toban's: “Be who you are and say what you feel, for those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
