Spring Design Trends 2012

One hot overall trend for spring is bringing nature’s whimsical feel and vibrant colors indoors. Floral motifs capture an organic beauty that can transform a home just by the simple act of bringing the outdoors in. That way, even if spring showers set in, you can still enjoy a beautiful day in your own home.

Fabric and Wall Covering

Fabrics and wallpaper with sheen and strong metallic colours are big for 2012. Metallic fabrics and wallpaper in pinks, purples and greys in muted shades can be used subtly to add sparkle or romance to a room. Metallic colours are less brassy and becoming more subtle and soft, golds and bronzes are being replaced with copper and cognac colours.

Printed textures are hot this season, as are tonal neutral wallpapers which add texture and warmth to a space. Layers of tonal textures and combinations of prints in the same colour palette will also be popular.Add interest to your decor with glass vases and ceramics in whites or neutrals. You will also see a lot of graphic elements on ceramics and linens.

Hot colour combinations

Shades of citrus green with high-contrasting neutrals will be popular this year, as well as cooler neutrals such as cream and white or grey and charcoal. In terms of colour combinations that work particularly well, be on the lookout for pale citrus green and pale aqua combined with a hit of yellow.

How to get the look

Incorporate prints into neutral spaces to add a sense of freshness and change of season. Hits of colour can make the space feel new and different, and it's easy to do with accessories such as vases, cushions and throws.

Designers and homeowners are transitioning away from minimalist decor and moving toward a cozier-looking home filled with accessories. People are not as concerned with perfection anymore and are looking more toward mixing colors, materials and fabrics instead of sticking to one theme.
